The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that most children start learning to swim by the time they are 4 years old, or earlier if you have these water risks: a pool at home or a place you visit often, live near a pond or other body of waters, own or use a boat regularly, your child is (or maybe autistic). It's never too early to start lessons; many programs start as young as 2 months old. There isn't a "best" age for every child to learn how to swim, but they need to be comfortable in water and know what to do to stay safe.
