Take a Dive!

Aqua Journey Swim School

There are a few swim instructors in the Volusia County area, and one of them is the Aqua Journey Swim School, one that I've personally tried out for myself.

Swimming is sometimes seen as a luxury, and a fun summer activity. Time for the beach and springs, splashing in the bathtub, shower or sensory fun... water is just as essential as breathing. Why not learn some swim skills then? Winter is still a great time to keep up with swimming lessons, since summer will be right around the corner once again. When it is summer, we so often want to be outside exploring with our littles ones, we are ready to let our little ones splash in water. Put your mind at ease and protect and help them explore water with you in a safe way.

I noticed an article published a while back by Becky Puhl, owner of Swim with Becky and Friends wrote "Water Safety is a Must in Florida" highlighting her experiences with the swim safety of young children. In her time as an instructor in Florida she recollects the dangers of not knowing how to swim. I believe that an "ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", meaning that it's important to do our best to reduce the risks rather than struggle with cautions.

Aqua Journey Swim School keeps their swimming pool at a consistent warm temperature for their infant classes. I have been enjoying their 'Mommy and Me' classes since my little one was old enough to hold her head well. However; they offer many swim options for young children and adult lessons for those wanting to learn now. I am aware of two family members of mine who did not learn to swim until they were adults. While infants and children are more openminded, adults have their own set of challenges when it comes to water. These instructors are here to assist.

Every instructor I have met has one clear goal, to help your little one stay safe when they enter water. The first skill is helping them get comfortable with water and then to practice good breathing skills while in the water. It is easy for your little one to learn to float and begin to swim alongside walking. Not only is it an important safety skill, but it also promotes gross motor skills - skills needed for crawling, standing and walking and encourages a healthy, active lifestyle.

Aside from the Aqua Journey Swim School, there are other options that are available and finding the right fit and the right instructor is a personal decision. Best of luck.
