Summer Splash

5 Ways To Splash This Summer West Volusia

By Danielle Brogan June 6, 2022

Schools out, Oh no!

It's ok, it's summer and Volusia has some of the best water activities around. Sometimes, I forget about the activities that I have to do in my own backyard. Today, I am just writing about the great activities we have to splash into.

If you are looking for fresh water or hiking trails West Volusia, we have some beautiful Springs to explore. A reminder to protect yourself and grab your sun and swim gear.

1. Swim in or Visit a Spring

Blue Springs - The beloved Blue Springs is home to our manatee friends in the winter and the Blue hole. It is a great spring to dive into and float down the lazy water in a tube or otherwise.

DeLeon Spring - This is one of my favorite place to grab breakfast if I get there early enough. It is a spring pool and a nice boat ride. But you can Kayak, Canoe or just enjoy the nature boat ride if you choose. I have fun watching the divers come explore the area.

Gemini Springs - Located in Debary, this spring is closed for swimming but don't be afraid to explore the nature trails. From here you can hike to DeLeon Springs.

Green Springs Park - Located in Enterprise, this spring used to be Florida's first health spa. The park is closed for swimming though.

2. Water sports

It is Florida, and while there are no rapids here we do have scenic outdoor views and lazy rivers. You can start your outdoor adventure with a paddleboard, Kayak, Canoe, Jetski, or Parasail.

3. Play in the Splash Pad

DeBary Community Park – open Tuesday thru Sunday from March thru October.
Deltona Wes Krile Park – open Tuesday thru Sunday from June thru September.
Orange City Veteran’s Memorial Park and Mill Lake Park – open daily 10am-6pm from March thru October.

4. Boat St. John River

The St. John's River is Florida's longest river, deemed an American Heritage River by President Clinton in 1998. Explore the Saint John's River by airboat or pontoon boat. You can take a river cruise if you prefer or just go fishing. Watch out for those alligators though.

5. Local Swimming Pool

Your local YMCA or swim school is a great resource especially if you have a little one. My little one is learning how to float and swim thanks to our local swim classes. Get your little titan ready to protect themselves this summer.

Exit on 92

Ok, this last one I cheated a little but how could I resist. If you are like me, you love to dig your feet in the sand, watch the morning sunrise and you like taking back roads - follow 92 down to Daytona and enjoy some sea life.

Have a splashtastic summer and be safe. :)
