The Superintendent’s Summer Academic Challenge is returning this summer, beginning May 27 and ending August 13. Students can register to take the literacy challenge, the math challenge or both. The winner of each category will receive an iPad, and the schools with the most participation will be recognized with a trophy.
“I encourage all of our students to take the Superintendent’s Summer Academic Challenge,” said Tom Russell, superintendent of schools. “This is a great way for students to stay engaged over the summer, and will help them keep up their reading and math skills.”
Volusia County Schools has aligned its literacy challenge to the state of Florida's Summer Literacy Adventure. To register, log on to the district’s website and complete the registration form; then, link directly to the state of Florida’s website to complete the registration process. Students will pledge the number of books they will read throughout the summer, and will then be given access to a reading log to document what they have read. At the end of the summer, participants who completed the log will be entered to win an iPad at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
Students who register for the math challenge will be given access to one of two math programs (IEXCEL or Mathspace). They will log on throughout the summer to complete mathematical challenges to demonstrate mastery of concepts. Students who master the most skills will win an iPad at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
